The Gateway to Educational Materials (GEM) is a consortium effort to provide
educators with quick and easy access to thousands of educational resources
found on various federal, state, university, non-profit, and commercial
Internet sites. GEM links to over 40,000 educational resources and lesson plans
that can be accessed through the GEM portal. GEM features faceted searching
that makes finding resources by subject, grade, keyword, audience and many

The Educator’s Reference Desk (http://www.eduref.org). From the Information Institute of Syracuse, the Educator’s Reference Desk features over 2,000 lesson plans, 3,000 links to online education information and an archive of reference questions. Lesson plans are organized by subject and can be filtered by keyword and grade level. Origin: N. Type: P. Audience: T.
National Science Digital Library (http://www.nsdl.org). The National Science Digital Library, NSDL, was established by the National Science Foundation (NSF) in 2000 as a free online library which directs users to exemplary resources for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education and research. NSDL provides an organized point of access to STEM content that is aggregated from a variety of other digital libraries, NSF-funded projects, and NSDL-reviewed web sites. Origin: N. Type: P. MERLOT (http://www.merlot.org). MERLOT is a free and open resource designed primarily for faculty and students of higher education, however many of the resources will be very useful for middle school and high school. Federal Resources for Education Excellence (FREE) (http://www.ed.gov/free). FREE is a portal from the Department of Education designed to provide access to educational resources. " FREE makes it easy to find learning resources from more than 35 federal organizations. Resources include teaching ideas, learning activities, photos, maps, primary documents, data, paintings, sound recordings, and more -- on thousands of topics." Origin: G. Type: P. Audience: T.
